Summer Bento

I haven’t used this bento box for a long time! Here’s what my wife prepared:

1. Rolled pork with asparagus
2. Rolled egg
3. Green pepper and mushroom salad
4. Cherry tomatoes 

Every time i eat with this bento, makes me feel like i’m in Japan!

Japanese Curry and Hambagu! 

Perfect weather for grilling today!~ We were craving for some vegetable Japanese curry and homemade hambagu! The hambagu tastes better when grilled because its moist and the outside is charred! 

Tip: Put lots of minced onion in the hambagu recipe!

Farm Fresh

My wife has been on the hunt for some fresh eggs. She misses eating raw egg on top of newly cooked steam rice with a bit of soy sauce. If you’ve ever been to Japan, this is a common dish that they serve for breakfast. We finally found a farm close to our home that sells fresh eggs! They also sold pies, vegetables, meat and a lot more. We also picked up a “summer sausage” that came from an amish family and some chocolate chip cookies.

Brunch - Japanese style


I ate out for lunch and dinner yesterday and already feeling bad because not enough vegetables??? My wife made this meal for brunch…

1. Miso soup with cabbage and mushrooms
2. Boiled fish with sauce and wakame
3. Boiled spinach
4. Steamed egg - unsalted (but then put a bit of soy sauce for flavor)
5. Brown rice

That’s a complete meal that should me last for a few hours! :) happy saturday everyone! have a great day!

Dinner

My wife made Piri-piri style (Portuguese) chicken. It was raining but i still went and fired up the grill! Paired with grilled asparagus, watercress salad and grain rice. Back to healthy eating!

Chicken Restaurant - Shinagawa, Tokyo

I miss friday nights in Tokyo! The rush of people heading to restaurants and izakayas! I remember going to this restaurant and waiting for at least 30 min in line because we didn’t want to keep walking around anymore.

This restaurant specializes in chicken! From karaage to yakitori! Of course everything tasted better paired with sake or beer.

Just a few of the dishes we ordered that night…so yummy!

Dipping soba

My wife tried to make the same dipping soba we had in Aomori from our last vacation. The dipping sauce is a bit spicy but goes well with the neutral taste of soba, wakame, green onions and boiled pork toppings. What can i say? She’s from Aomori and got the flavor just right!
